General Information:

SH57 is a rural highway servicing the southeast of the North Island. The route is mostly rural highway standard and follows and crosses the North Island Main Trunk railway several times.

History:

• 1997: SH57 rerouted to bypass Palmerston North. SH57 replaced SH57A between Summerhill and Ashhurst. 1
