Settled in the mid 1860's, the town was set up as part of the wheat push into regional SA and today serves as a farming centre. The town's main street is wide and shady and features several historic buildings. In the area are Mt Remarkable National Park (15km south), Alligator Gorge (10km south-west) and Hancock's Lookout (15km west) where most of the northern Spencer Gulf can be viewed.
