Quorn is located in a large valley in the southern Flinders Ranges and at the junction of the B82 and B83. The town was settled in the 1870's after mineral deposits were found in the area. A railway link from Port Augusta was established soon after, and as the early mining and wheat industries declined, so did the town into its current form. Today the town serves as a centre for the local wool industry and also was home to the Pichi Richi tourist railway line. In the area are various ruins giving reminder to the harsh climate that prevails in the arid regions north of Goyders Line, Pichi Richi Pass to the south and many spectacular gorges to the north and north-west. Quorn's main street is wide and lined with historic buildings featuring the standout railway station which was used in the film "The Shiralee". Certainly a place to visit or pass through on the way to the Flinders Ranges.
