Peterborough is a medium sized town located in the southern Flinders Ranges region and is well known for being an historic railway town. Originally, the town was known as Petersburg but its name changed to Peterborough during WW2 due to its German influence. The town was established in the 1860's as a railway junction but now is the principal town on the Pt Pirie-Broken Hill line as well as being a major centre for the local sheep and wheat industries. The town's main street is excellent and boasts the interesting Steamtown Museum, railway station and several historic buildings.
