Australian Towns & Cities
South Australia: Hahndorf
Incorporating photos and Information
from Michael Greenslade's former Australian Towns, Cities and Highways
site
Hahndorf, located in the heart of the Adelaide Hills, lies just off the South-Eastern Freeway between Adelaide and Mt Barker. The town is well known for being the oldest German settlement in Australia as the town was settled by German refugees in the late 1830's. Many of the original buildings along the shady main street have survived and the town still retains a distinct Germanic look with several of the local businesses and attractions being very much in the same orientation. Surrounded by rolling hills, vineyards, orchards and historic villages, it is a recommended destination.
