Barmera, a smaller town in the South Australian Riverland lies on the Sturt Highway between Berri and Waikerie and on the shore of Lake Bonney (links with the Murray River). The town was established primarily from soldier settlements after WW1 but has grown into a popular tourist town with the excellent water facilities provided by Lake Bonney. Barmera also has a busy shopping precinct and centre considering its sleepy town status and like the other nearby towns, has several parks abutting the foreshore. In the area is the Irrigation & Steam Museum (6km west), the Moorook Game Reserve (15km south-west) and the historic Overland Corner Hotel (15km north).
