Australian Towns & Cities
Queensland: Burleigh Heads
Incorporating photos and Information
from Michael Greenslade's former Australian Towns, Cities and Highways
site
Located on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, Burleigh Heads
is famous for its golden sandy beach.
Prior to European settlement, the Kombumerri Indigenous
people had named the area 'Jellurgal'. Development of the area took off in
the 19th century as a result of an increased interest in bathing, camping
and other beach activities.
Burleigh Heads is home to The David Fleay Wildlife Park,
Jebribillum Bora Park and Burleigh Head National Park, plus a number of
surfing events.
