Taralga is a small village in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales and located on the road between Goulburn and Bathurst. The first European to explore the area was Charles Throsby in 1819, European settlement took place from 1824. The area is surrounded by farming properties, and the town was established from the beginning from sheep grazing. Prior to European settlement, the area was inhabited by the Gundungurra people.
