New South Wales: Coonamble
Incorporating photos and Information from Michael Greenslade's former Australian Towns, Cities and Highways site

Coonamble, located on the Castlereagh Highway between Gilgandra and Walgett, also lies on the Castlereagh River and is the centre of the Coonamble shire in north-western NSW. The town, surveyed in 1859 is primarily a centre for the local wheat and wool industries - most of the town's growth occurred when the railway line was extended from Dubbo in 1905. Although much of the town centre was destroyed by fire in 1929, some of the original buildings remain - the CBD nowadays is excellent as it features tree lined streets, a busy shopping precinct and several parks abutting the Castlereagh River.
