Bathurst, Australia's oldest inland city lies at the junction of the Great Western, Mid Western and Mitchell Highways was originally a convict settlement before gold was discovered in the area in 1851. Since then it has grown as a regional city with its main industries vegetables, engineering and education. The city is host to a annual motor racing event held at nearby Mount Panorama, of which serves excellent views of the city and surrounds.
