Bangalow is a small town located in the New South Wales Northern Rivers region. The town's name seems to have been derived from an Aboriginal word, "Bangalla", said to mean 'a low hill' or 'a kind of palm tree'. 1
Established in the late 1800s, the town was originally known and Byron Creek, then Bangaloe, before given its current spelling. Initially a timber cutting area 2, the region is now home to farming activities and a thriving arts community.
