General Information:
State Route 85 consists of a mix of 2 lane single carriageway road and 4 lane dual carriageway road. Some sections are designed to be upgraded to dual carriageway when the need arises. Joondalup Drive is the only section of the route that features 4 lane dual carriageway, but only between Carramar and Joondalup.
The section that once beared the SR86 shield is the route east of the Wanneroo Road intersection. This happened when Joondalup Drive was extended east to meet with Neaves Road - the old SR86 ran via Pinjar Road (which also took in what is now Mornington Drive and Greenvale Place, at Banskia Grove, now byapssed as part of the Joondalup Drive extension) between Wanneroo and Neaves Roads before picking up the current SR85 through to Bullsbrook. 1
