General Information:

M1 / A1 is a major route that crosses roughly from east to west in Victoria. The standard varies from single carriageway rural highway to full freeway standard. This page covers the Chadstone to Berwick section prior to it being upgraded to 4 lanes each way.

Monash Freeway:

The Monash Freeway runs from Melbourne's inner eastern suburbs and ends at Berwick, where it joins with the Prince Freeway. The route was previously known as the South Eastern Freeway. 3 It was also known as the South Eastern Arterial. 4

History:

April 2000: Construction of the Hallam Bypass (Monash Freeway) begins, creating a 7.5 km long freeway connection between the Monash Freeway at Doveton and the Princes Freeway at Berwick. 5
March 2010: The completion of the installation of noise barriers along the Princes Freeway in Beaconsfield and Berwick. 6
