General Information:

State Route 15 a suburban arterial route in the Brisbane metropolitan area. In the past the roads used formed one of the most important routes in Brisbane.

The route passes south, east and north of the Brisbane CBD and consists of a mix of divided and undivided roads.

With the opening of the Clem Jones Tunnel (M7), State Route 15 was truncated at the Pacific Mwy (M3) interchange at Woolloongabba. This page focuses on the former alignment betwen Woolloongabba and Rocklea.

History:

• 24 May 1935: Construction begins with a sod turning ceremony for the Story Bridge over Brisbane River. The ceremony was led by W. Forgan Smith, premier of Queensland.
• 6 July 1940: Story Bridge opens to traffic.
• 1993: State Route 20 discontinued on Ipswich Road, between Sherwood Road and Granard Road.
• 1994: National Route 15 designation revoked. Was to be replaced with ALT-NR15, however the route became SR15 as a result of an allocation of state routes by Brisbane City Council. 3
• 2010: State Route 15 truncated south of Pacific Mwy (M3) interchange at Woolloongabba and replaced with A7 to coincide with the opening of Clem Jones Tunnel (M7).
