General Information:
A6 is a rural highway route that crosses the Great Dividing Range between Torrens Creek and Pentland.
The Flinders Highway is a major traffic route in north and north-west Queensland, carrying significant volumes of heavy transport and passenger vehicles between Townsville and Cloncurry. It is also the major freight route connecting the sea ports of Darwin and Townsville. North West Region often receives a large amount of rainfall between January and March each year, resulting in flooding of the road network. 2
Multiplexes along the route include:
- State Route 62, Kennedy Developmental Road, for 100m at Hughenden
History:
- May 2008: Commencement of widening works to a seven-kilometre-section of the highway between Hughenden and Prairie. 3
- August 2009: Work begins on another 5 km of widening between Hughenden and Prairie. 3
- April 2010: Flood mitigation and widening works begin between Julia Creek and Cloncurry. 4
- December 2010: Completion of widening works to the road and and upgrade of the culverts at Holy Joe and Box Creek on the Flinders Highway between Julia Creek and Cloncurry. 2
