Macquarie Street, George Street, The Northern Road, Richmond Road, Parker Street, The Northern Road, Camden Valley Way & Narellan Road (Metroad 9) - Luddenham to Campbelltown - Narellan Road Extension Construction (Decommissioned) |
Route Numbering:
General Information:
Metroad 9 is a major north-south route on Sydney's outer western fringe. It passes through residential, commercial and farming areas.
For many years a dog leg existed between The Northern Road and Narellan Road. To work around this, a plan has been in place for decades to directly link the two roads, this came to fruition on the 26th of October, 2007, when the Roads and Traffic Authority opened the Narellan Road Extension at Narellan.
According to the NSW Roads & Traffic Authority web site (back in January 2007), construction work on Narellan Road extension commenced in August 2006. The work was part of the Narellan Road upgrade works that were announced in March 2003 by the State Government as part of the traffic and transport improvements for the Camden Local Government area. The projects were funded by the NSW State Government from developer contributions generated by the Spring Farm and Elderslie release areas that form part of the Narellan land release.
The images below show the construction of the Narellan Road extension. The Northern Road segment has been renamed to The Old Northern Road. The Camden Valley Way retained its name.
